Stone Maintenance

An excellent way to maintain the look of stone surfaces, while delaying more aggressive and expensive methods of stone refinishing, is a professional cleaning procedure. Much less costly than grinding, honing, or polishing, the process involves machine cleaning using a high-quality neutral cleanser and stone conditioner. No abrasive polishing compounds, diamonds, or grits are used. While deep scratches and marks will not be removed in the cleaning process, ground-in dirt and other unsightly stains usually come out well. A professionally performed cleaning leaves a much improved and more resistant surface.

Stone Care Tips

  • Use mats at all points of entrance to prevent sand and grit from spreading on the floor causing scratches and dullness. A good quality mat will capture dirt before someone can track it onto the floor.
  • Prevent Scratches!  Use felt or plastic pads under all furniture and other items that come in contact with the stone.  Place plants on protective bases.
  • Dust mop regularly to eliminate sand and grit, reducing the possibility of scratches.
  • Use only neutral cleansers that are specifically formulated for use on natural stone that will not harm the surface.  Mop the floor regularly at least once per week to remove dirt and soil.
